Bassett Man Arrested For Child Porn Had "Trophy Room"

Posted: Updated:

A 43-year-old Bassett man in custody for allegedly possessing and distributing child pornography and committing lewd acts against three girls between the ages of 10 and 13 was arrested at a residence where a "trophy room" filled with young girls' items such as clothes and toys was found, authorities said today.

Manuel Montes, 43, of the Industry-area community of Bassett, was
arrested about 11:30 a.m. Thursday in Norwalk, and was held at the sheriff's
Norwak Station Jail on $500,000 bail, said Sgt. Peter Hahn of the Special
Victims Bureau.

Montes was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday in Downey.

Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Special Victims Bureau
and Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement team learned that someone used a computer
at a specific Bellflower location to upload child pornography and a search
warrant was served at the location, Hahn said.

The search yielded evidence that the images were uploaded using a
computer under the control of a person at a location in Basset, he said.

A search warrant was served at that location on Thursday, Hahn said.
"The evidence seized at the second warrant location provided
overwhelming evidence of the suspect's possession, possible distribution and
manufacture of child pornography," he said.

The second location was rigged with electronically linked trip wires to
alert whoever placed them that someone had entered the residence or the rooms
within, Hahn said.

"Detectives noted the physical appearance of the warrant location
indicated that an individual had hastily left the location just prior to their
entry," he said.

In addition to linking the suspect to the alleged child pornography and
lewd acts against children, the evidence collected at the second location
also helped detectives identify three female victims between the ages of 10 and
13, all of them from Los Angeles, Hahn said.

The girls are now out of harm's way, he said.

At the Norwalk residence where Montes was arrested, detectives found
what Hahn described as "a disturbing `trophy room' filled with young girls'
items such as clothes, toys and children's books."

Anyone who knows of other possible victims was urged to call the
Sheriff's Special Victims Bureau at (877) 710-LASD. Anonymous tips can be made
by calling Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
