`Tweet Seats` to offer a new way to experience the Loop - Fox 2 News Headlines

Pop-up social spaces to offer a new Loop experience

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The Chicago Loop Alliance plans to set up traveling 'People Spots' around the Loop - art installations complete with flowers, music and art.

The new program uses Twitter to find out from the public where the rotating tables and chairs should pop up throughout the downtown area.

Chicago Loop Alliance Executive Director Michael Edwards told Good Day Chicago that hundreds of people have participated in events in the past. Nearby businesses on the underutilized streets where the spots were installed saw a benefit from the foot traffic.

"We took the whole block and worked with adjacent property owners who had outdoor cafes, marketing together," Edwards said. "When the cafe tables fill up, people go to the outdoor setting. It's a dynamic place. We learned a lot."

The alliance's mission is to create, maintain and manage high-performing urban spaces. Edwards said the "Tweet Seats" program will provide new way for Chicagoans to experience the Loop.
