USS Somerset To Be Commissioned On Saturday At Penn's Landing

PHILADELPHIA -

Notice that big ship docked at Penn's Landing? That's the USS Somerset. It will be commissioned this Saturday. The ceremony will mark the ship's entrance into the naval forces.

The USS Somerset joins USS New York and USS Arlington as the third vessel to be named after the heroes of 9/11. United Flight 93's final resting place is in Somerset County, Pa. The brave actions of the passengers on the flight saved countless other lives and prevented the plane from reaching its intended target.

FOX 29's Chris Murphy talked to Captain Thomas Dearborn live at Penn's Landing this morning.

The bow staff of the ship has a remnant of the plane to memorialize the passengers, Capt. Dearborn said.

"Essentially, it's a mobile memorial."

More than 5,000 are expected to attend the ceremony on Saturday. Find out more here.
