The family of slain Renisha McBride was recently kicked out of their rental property, and appears to have fallen victim to a renting scam.

Monica McBride, Renisha's mother, says the management company at the property she rented kicked her out of her house. The family says the company is scamming people by moving them into foreclosed houses and collecting rent.

Monica says before she was kicked out, she found out the house was in foreclosure and confronted the "owner."

"He explained to me that they had a partial payment that they paid where they wouldn't go under to lose the home in foreclosure, so I kept paying," she tells FOX 2's Andrea Isom.

Then an official foreclosure letter showed up.

She stopped paying.

They say that's when all of their belongings were thrown in the dumpster on the street.

"You could have gave us time to get our stuff together and to move. You just threw us out like we were dogs in the middle of the cold," says Jasmine McBride, Renisha's sister.

Monica says she has not been the same since her daughter Renisha's death. She says she is currently staying mostly at motels.

Renisha, 19, was shot to death Nov. 2, 2013 by Theodore Wafer at his Dearborn Heights home. She was shot through Wafer's screen door. He called 911 around 4:30 a.m. and said he had shot someone who was banging on his door. Wafer has said he feared for his safety

More than three hours earlier, Renisha had crashed her car into a parked car in a residential neighborhood. A witness has said Renisha was bleeding and holding her head. She apparently walked away from the accident scene before an ambulance arrived. It's still unclear, at least publicly, what she did between the time of the car wreck and her arrival on Wafer's porch.

An autopsy found McBride had a blood-alcohol level of about 0.22, more than twice the legal limit for driving. She also had been smoking marijuana.

Wafer's trial is scheduled to start in June. He has been charged with second-degree murder.
