PHOENIX (KSAZ) -

On Wednesday, we learned that Marissa Devault used to work as a stripper who went by the stage name "Reesie Cup." While she was married, she dated a man she met while working at the strip club.

That man testified in court today saying that Devault asked him to 'take care' of her husband he also told the jury she tried to kill her husband in the past by poisoning him.

Travis Tatro said he dated Marissa Devault for nearly a year back in the early 2000's and after not speaking to her for a while he said Devault came to him for help in January 2009.

"Um, she asked me if I could take care of him or knew anyone that could... It didn't sound like she wanted a hit man just sounded like she wanted someone to slap him around a little bit," said Tatro.

He said that conversation happened the week before Devault allegedly murdered her husband Dale Harrell with a hammer.  "She was having troubles again in life basically getting smacked around again," said Tatro.

Tatro said he refused to help her this time. In the past he said he confronted Dale Harrell about the alleged abuse. "He put his hand out to shake my hand I told him I don't shake hands with woman beating pieces of (profanity) he stepped back like he didn't know what I was talking about".

Devault claims she snapped after years of abuse and killed her husband in self-defense. Tatro claims she tried to end her husband's life at least one other time before. "Although you'd never seen her act violent she had talked to you about trying to kill her husband over the same insurance money... She had told me once she was trying to poison him with Tylenol to wreck his stomach or something," he said.

A couple who was friends with Devault and her husband also took the stand. They denied ever seeing dale Harrell abuse his wife but say, Devault would tell them about incidents where he pushed or shoved her.

The trial continues Thursday if convicted, Devault is facing the death penalty.
