Man armed with BB gun shot in dispute

CANTON, Ga. -

Cherokee County investigators say a man armed with a BB gun was shot Sunday afternoon as he tried to get money over a debt he claims he was owed.

The incident happened at around 4:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon when Cherokee County 911 received a call from a motorist reporting that they had witnessed a shooting outside a residence on Bells Ferry Road near Holly Street in Canton.

A short time later, investigators say 23-year-old Ryan Jones of Cartersville arrived at Northside Hospital Cherokee with gunshot wounds.

Deputies were dispatched to 9990 Bells Ferry Road where the shooting reportedly happened.

According to a news release, witnesses at the scene reported that Jones came to the residence with a gun demanding to be paid for a debt that he claimed he was owed.

According to the release, a guest at the residence, 43-year-old Brian Turner of Woodstock, shot Jones with a shotgun outside the residence.

Jones' injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

The release states Turner refused to comply with a search warrant to obtain bodily fluids to determine if he was under the influence of narcotics.

After his refusal, deputies arrested Turner for obstruction.  As of Monday morning, he was being held in the Cherokee Adult Detention Center with a $1,000.00 bond.

Turner has not been charged in the shooting by Monday morning.
