Only On FOX. Looking Down The Barrel Of A Gun, Robbery Victim Speaks Out

PHILADELPHIA -

A holdup at a friendly food mart was caught on camera. The masked gunman tossed a backpack at a clerk and told him to fill it with money then fled. One of the robbery victims speaks out first on FOX 29.

Store manager Sonny Singh says the Friendly Food Mart where he works has never been robbed in six years until a rather unfriendly bandit waving a gun entered the store a few days ago, tossed a bag to the employees behind the counter and demanded money.

"He said fill it up, fill it up," Singh told FOX 29.

"When somebody points a gun at you of course you going to be scared."

Surveillance cameras were rolling as the clerk complied and emptied the cash register. The gun toting bandit ordered two female customers to the floor and kept a close eye on the front door, at one point ordering another customer to not enter.

"He said nobody's gonna die," Singh explained. "I'm glad."

"Because of the close environment, any quick move could have been a real problem for us," said Lt. John Walker of Southwest Detectives.

Singh says the entire robbery lasted about 45 seconds. The entire time the bandit was pointing the gun at Singh and his coworker behind the counter. The robber got away with over $10,000.

"I don't care about the money. I just give him the money, I told him not to hurt nobody, you can get the money and get out of here," Singh added.

Southwest Detectives say that even though the gunman was wearing a mask and a hoodie, they're hoping the public might notice this distinctive bag he tossed to the clerk to load with money.

"It was a royal blue Under Armor bag that we're asking people to look for," Lt. Walker said.

Singh meanwhile says he's just glad no one was hurt. Police say this armed robbery could have ended much differently.

"We're asking that people come forward and identify this person before he hurts somebody," Walker said.

"Nobody got hurt so thank God," Singh said.

The suspect ran off after the robbery, headed north on Theodore Street. If you have any information on the suspect or the robbery you can call Southwest Detectives at 215-686-3388.
