NJ Man May Have Died Fighting House Fire, Officials Say

HARRISON TWP., N.J. -

A man who was found dead by firefighters battling a Mullica Hill house fire may have died trying to put out the blaze, Gloucester County officials said Wednesday.

The man, identified as 62-year-old Ron Stewart, was a resident of the two-story colonial home on East Avenue in Harrison Township.

The fire was reported at 4:36 a.m. by way of a 9-1-1 call from inside the home. A woman and another male, believed to be Stewart's adult son and his wife, escaped from the heavily-damaged structure.

Stewart man was found on the home's second floor and taken to the county morgue for an autopsy. The fire is under investigation by the Gloucester County Fire Marshal's Office and the county prosecutor's office, which assists on investigations of all fatal fires.
