Two film crew members on `Empire` TV pilot arrested at jail

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Two men working on a film crew for a TV pilot shooting scenes at the Cook County Jail were arrested when they tried to enter the jail Wednesday.

The arrests were made because of security procedures in place for all visitors to the jail, Cook County Sheriff's office spokesman Benjamin Breit said.

A required background check revealed one man on the film crew had an outstanding domestic battery warrant from DuPage County, Breit said.

James Suhaida, 52, is now in the custody of DuPage County officials, he said.

The warrant was issued in 2003 regarding a Downers Grove Police Department case from 1999 that has since been closed, according to court records. Those records confirmed the warrant was served Wednesday.

Another man on the film crew was arrested after authorities searching his vehicle found marijuana, Breit said. He was released without charges.

The one-day shoot was filming scenes for Empire, a TV pilot for Fox, Breit said.

Lee Daniels is directing the show, a drama set in the hip-hop world starring actors Terrence Howard, Taraji P. Henson and Gabourey Sidibey, according to published reports.

"At the sheriff's office we welcome film crews whether they're fictional or documentary series," Breit said.

"We have very stringent security procedures, and it worked here," he said.
