STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. (WJBK) -

A Michigan resident accused of making "disturbing" and "harassing" phone calls to the sites of multiple school shootings across the country has been charged with two felonies.

Dylan Clark, 17, of Sterling Heights is accused of making threatening phone calls to schools including Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn.; Columbine High School in Littleton, Colo.; Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in Blacksburg, Va.; and Arapahoe High School in Centennial, Colo.

A call placed on February 11, 2014 to Sandy Hook's new school location was investigated by police in Connecticut. A younger male allegedly repeatedly made reference to the shootings and claimed to be a relative of the shooter, and then named all of the children who died in the shooting.

A subpoena search of phone records revealed the calls were being made from Sterling Heights, Mich. Connecticut police contacted the Sterling Heights Police Department to continue the investigation.

Sterling Heights police learned a call to Arapahoe High School was also placed on Feb. 11 in which the caller threatened to burn down the school.

Police took the suspect into custody on Wednesday, March 19. They confiscated a laptop, notebooks, a Kindle and cell phones from the suspect's home on Sunderland Drive.

Police say no security issues were imminent at any local schools, nor were any local schools threatened.

Clark has been charged with one count of False Report or Threat of Terrorism, and one count of Computers - Using to Commit a Crime. The charges carry 20-year prison sentence and/or thousands of dollars in fines.

"We need to send a message to these people who think this is a joke or a prank that we will take these matters seriously," says Sterling Heights Police Chief Michael Reese.

The chief says Clark has a history of behavioral problems and was kicked out of an alternative school in Sterling Heights last fall.
