CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The friendship between Michigan State basketball star Adreian Payne and eight-year-old Lacey Holsworth is making many people smile this March, amid the madness.

Lacey underwent treatment for neuroblastoma that took a heavy toll on her and her family.

Payne and Holsworth met when Michigan State players went to the hospital where she's being treated. The two became fast friends.

Adreian helped Lacey get through her treatments by visiting her at the hospital, coloring with her and bringing her stuffed animals. Lacey's mom said even in the darkest days, her daughter lit up whenever Payne walked in to her hospital room.

This story shows March Madness is more about brackets. It's about players with big hearts, doing great things off the court.
