DETROIT (WJBK) - A sergeant with the Detroit Police Department was injured in a hit-and-run accident Wednesday afternoon.

The accident happened at Majestic and Mansfield streets on the city's west side, near Warren Avenue and Greenfield Road.

The sergeant was outside his unmarked vehicle investigating an unrelated incident when he was hit. Capt. Donna Jarvis says the driver did slow down briefly before hitting the sergeant , so they believe she did see him in the street.

The female driver attempted to leave the scene of the accident. After checking on the sergeant 's condition, his partner got in their vehicle and chased the woman down.

She is now in police custody.

The sergeant has been transported to the hospital and is in temporary serious condition.
