Faulkner: bicoastal alt-rock band with a literary name

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Meet Faulkner, a rising California band with New York roots. The anthemic alt-rock group, who was missing their guitarist Lucas Asher at the time of our interview, formed out of Venice Beach last year. They've been bi-coastal ever since, finding reprieve from the uber-competitive L.A. music scene with shows at the Mercury Lounge and Webster Hall in New York.

The group first caught the attention of Grammy-nominated producer Mark Needham, who's worked with Imagine Dragons and The Killers.

Faulkner's operatic fusion of rap and rock also attracted hip hop icon and Wu-Tang Clan leader RZA, who lends some Empire State street cred to their single "New York Anthem."

On the rock side of things, Faulkner draws from a diverse selection of personal influences without imitating them classic rock David Bowie, Paul McCartney, John Paul Jones, and Dave Grohl -- resulting in a reverent sound that's all their own.

The lineup:

Lucas Asher

Eric Scullin

Dimitri Farougias

Christian Hogan

Heavy thunderstorms swept through the tri-state on Sunday causing flash floods and lightning strikes that injured 3 people. The three men were struck at Orchard Beach in the Bronx Sunday afternoon and were being treated at a local hospital. Meanwhile, various Labor Day weekend celebrations were interrupted, delayed and even canceled as the U.S. Open tennis tournament had to be postponed and the Electric Zoo musical festival on Randall's Island had to be prematurely shut down.
