Wedding given to couple after devastating diagnosis

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

A young couple who has been through an emotionally devastating year finally has reason to celebrate. It is all thanks to the generosity of FOX 5 viewers. The couple was with family and friends celebrating their wedding on Sunday.

It speaks to the power of life, the power of love and the power we all have to do something wonderful for someone else. Family and friends gathered at the Wimbish House doing something that they haven't gotten to do much of lately. They are laughing and celebrating.

It isn't exactly what Chrystal and Donald Wiles had planned when they got engaged about a year ago. Last summer, the couple found out Donald had ALS and may not have long to live.

We first told you their story last fall. Chrystal was working extra shifts as a Clayton County 911 operator so they could save up to have their wedding while Donald was still healthy enough.

FOX 5 viewers, including a wedding planner, were so moved by their story that they began looking for vendors
like the Atlanta Women's Club who would offer their services to help the couple out. That's how Sunday's ceremony came together in an unforgettable way.

"It was amazing. I'm seeing this stuff for the first time. I'm in awe of everything. They did a wonderful job, everybody," said bride Chrystal Wiles.

"Thank you for putting it out there for us. Without y'all, nobody would never have seen it or helped us or anything. Again, thank you again, everybody," said groom Donald Wiles.

They are happy and overjoyed right now. They said after so much worry of the last several months with so much planning, so much deciding and trying to wonder what they are going to do, they say they are going to enjoy this and relax.
