Beware: Fake USGS Letter Warns Of Large Earthquake Coming

Posted: Updated:
Los Angeles, CA -

If you've seen it...don't believe it. An official-looking US Geological Survey letter is circulating on the web...warning of an imminent earthquake in the Southland.

The USGS wants you to know…it's bogus.

The fake letter says California issued a state-wide warning yesterday, based on information from the "seismic warning systems" about a quake that could top 7.4 magnitude.

The USGS has publicly denounced the hoax letter being circulated, and has been issuing statements on social media: www.twitter.com/USGS and www.facebook.com/USGeologicalSurvey.
