School bus driver charged with sex assault on bus

Posted: Updated:

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - A school bus driver in West Haven has been charged with sexually assaulting a student on his bus several times.

Fifty-one-year-old Alan Demand of New Haven was arrested Monday on charges including second-degree sexual assault, illegal sexual contact and unlawful restraint. He was detained on $50,000 bail and is expected to be arraigned Tuesday in Milford Superior Court.

Police say Demand sexually assaulted the student a number of times between October and December last year. Authorities say he also had numerous cell phone conversations with the student and sent sexually explicit texts to the student.

Officials say Demand immediately was suspended from his school bus driver job when the allegations arose.

It's not clear if Demand has a lawyer.
