Razor Blades Found Duct Taped to Playground Equipment

Posted: Updated:
BROOKHAVEN, Pa. -

A discovery made at a local playground is putting many parents on edge.

Jim Deprophetis, Brookhaven Town Watch president, combs through Eaton Park with a flashlight making sure all of the danger is gone after police say razor blades were found duct taped to the playground's equipment.

"It's sick. Plain and simple," Deprophetis said.

Brookhaven police put out an alert Tuesday afternoon after the discovery was made by a maintenance worker.

Though they gave the all clear, neighbors like the Farren family, are still very much concerned.

"Who would even think of something like that? razor blades? I don't know it's just sad," Carolyn Farren said.

"It's been great to have when you can walk out your backyard and have all this space, but I mean now you've got to think twice because you never know whose going to be around," Brandon Farren said.

Dog walkers using the park are also worried.

"It's just sad that something like that has to happen to the playground. Who would want to harm a little child?," a concerned dog walker said.

This incident comes just days after police say an Illinois toddler was cut by straight edge razor blades glued to the monkey bars on a playground there.

A Philadelphia Eagles player from that community offered up reward money to help find that suspect.

It's not known if that incident inspired this one in Brookhaven, but residents here are outraged either way.

"That's just evil. That's not even boredom, it's evil," Carolyn Farren said.
