1 dead after vehicle swept into creek

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -

Gwinnett County authorities say one woman has died after her vehicle was swept into a flooded creek early Monday afternoon.

In a report, authorities details: A witness at the scene stated that they saw the vehicle enter the waterway and head downstream with the engine area submerged in the water. Gwinnett firefighters and Swiftwater specialty team was called to the scene where crews entered the water to attempt to locate and rescue the driver.

The (waterway) was swollen from the heavy rains and runoff from up the river. Crews backed out of the river to await the inflatable river boat to do a thorough search. The boat arrived and was deployed at the Harbins Bridge. Crews did a systematic search where the found the car and the victim deceased in the vehicle. Lilburn Police is handling the investigation.
