5-person retail fraud ring disbanded

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. (WJBK) - Authorities in southeast Michigan say they've disbanded a five-person retail fraud ring and have recovered more than $3 million in stolen merchandise.

The office of Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard shared the results of the investigation on Wednesday.

Investigators received a tip in February that individuals were selling pseudoephedrine and manufacturing methamphetamine. The Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET) investigated and soon believed the individuals were instead part of an organized retail fraud ring.

They say the group stole as much as $15,000 worth of merchandise per day, and watched the suspects commit retail fraud at several CVS and Walgreen's stores. NET also learned the merchandise was likely being stored in a warehouse in Hazel Park before being sold online.

The following individuals were arrested, charged, and arraigned at the 44th District Court in the City of Royal Oak: Shah Khalish, 28, of Hazel Park; Delwar Mia, 23, of Detroit; April Cooper, 29, of Warren; Sandra Cooper, 47, of Warren; and Shantell Collins, 24, of Detroit.

The sheriff's office says a search of the warehouse found approximately $3 million of Victoria's Secret merchandise, $30,000 dollars of CVS and Walgreen's merchandise, $75,000 in cash and $10,000 in various other name-brand products.
