Mayor declares week of April 21 'Divvy Week'

Posted: Updated:

The city of Chicago is preparing for the cycling season by putting 700 Divvy bikes back into circulation.

The city usually keeps at least 2,500 bikes out at one time, but reduced that number to 1,800 over the winter.

In an effort to encourage Chicagoans to try Divvy for the first time or purchase an annual membership, Mayor Emanuel declared the week of April 21 "Divvy Week." During that week, 24-hour Divvy passes will be offered at a discounted price of $5.

Those who sign up for annual memberships during that week will receive Chipotle gift cards and other prizes.

"Divvy has already been a great success, and with the improved weather comes the chance for more of us to get outside and ride a bike," Mayor Rahm Emanuel said.

A recent report shows Divvy bike users have taken 900,000 trips and traveled more than 2 million miles since the program was launched nine months ago.

There are more than 300 Divvy stations and 3,000 bikes throughout the city.
