Firefighter, 3 others hurt in South Side fires; 20 displaced

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A Chicago firefighter, two kids and one adult were hospitalized Friday morning after two separate fires on the South Side. Twenty people were displaced as a result of both incidents.

The first was reported around 4:30 a.m. in the 7800 block of South Colfax Avenue. Seven adults and 10 children were displaced after the fire burned in the first and second floors of the South Shore building. Crews had it under control about an hour later.

Fire Media Affairs said the firefighter was taken to Advocate Trinity with an undisclosed injury. The other victims' injuries were not life-threatening. They were taken to South Shore Hospital.

The second fire was reported at 5:30 a.m. in the 4500 block of South Woodlawn Avenue in Kenwood. Two adults and one child were displaced from the two-story building. Crews put out this fire in 20 minutes.

Fire authorities investigated the cause of each blaze Friday.
