CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The Chicago Police Department arrested 52 people and seized nearly $185,000 in drugs and money during drug busts Thursday.

The arrested stemmed from narcotics investigations after recent violent crimes in the Deering, Calumet and South Chicago districts.

The largest bust was in the 7800 block of South Saginaw Avenue. At that location, police arrested 28 people on drug charges. Authorities made "numerous" covert drug purchases from gang members in the area during the investigation, police said.

Police ultimately seized cocaine, heroin, crack cocaine, cannabis and ecstasy with an estimated street value of $162,000, police said. Officers also seized four vehicles, two guns and $5,000 in cash.

Another sweep in the 11500 block of South Halsted Street resulted in 14 arrests of gang members who sold drugs in the neighborhood, police said. Authorities seized a vehicle, and quantities of heroin, cannabis and crack cocaine worth $14,000.

A third sweep in the 5100 block of South Halsted Street resulted in 8 drug arrests and $5,000 worth of heroin and cannabis.
