Money Smart Week is a program operated by the Federal Reserve Bank to help people learn about money. There has been about 200 free events throughout the metro area and Fox 2 is a proud media sponsor.

Money Smart Week events are open to the public at businesses, financial institutions, schools, libraries, nonprofits and government agencies throughout the state of Michigan on topics including kids and money, credit building, managing student debt and retirement.

Free educational programs are still available through April 12. Events can be found at www.MoneySmartWeek.org where you can search by topic, date, zip code. Part of the Federal Reserve Bank's national Money Smart Week initiative.

With two days left, wrapping up the event is the Michigan's Money Smart Week Women's Conference feature at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, at Detroit Unity Temple.

According to Michigan Money Smart Week Chair, Kelly Masters, Detroit Unity Temple is demonstrating real leadership by organizing this Women's Conference. She told FOX 2, "In a time when women continue to be squeezed by simultaneously caring for their children and aging loved ones, experience high levels of stress that impacts their physical health, continue to make less money on average than their male counterparts, and are often not focusing on their own long-term financial needs, the holistic approach of this conference is timely and on mark."

A female panel of experts will address many of the financial situations pertaining to women such as: costs of caregiving, financial personality types, children, estate planning, retirement, employment options, health/wealth and more. Experts from: Michigan State University Extension, Henry Ford Hospital, Family Harmony: Eldercare and Caregiver Solutions, the Law Office of Adrienne Watts, One Step Ahead, Inc., Thomas Financial Group, Shelborne Development Company, and The Water Station will share their expertise and answer participant questions. Along with this session are money-themed activities for children of all ages at the same venue. A resource fair accompanies the event.
