CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) - Police say a parole absconder has been arrested for a home invasion after leading police on a legthy chase across Chesterfield Township.

Dispatchers received a 911 call of a burglary in process Thursday evening just before 7 p.m. The called described the suspect and the vehicle, and told dispatchers he had just left the home with a pillowcase appearing to be full of stolen stuff.

Police spotted the suspect a short time later at near 21 Mile and Romeo Plank roads. They say the suspect refused to pull over and led police on a chase that lasted for seven minutes.

Police say stop-sticks were deployed in efforts to deflate the tires. However, the chase still ensued and finally ended when a police cruiser slammed into the suspect's vehicle. The man was taken into custody.

"Mr. Leavitt's car was listed ... as a wanted vehicle for toehr burglaries. It described Mr. Leavitt as being the driver, a parole absconder and wanted on a warrant out of Burton, Michigan for another home invasion," says Chesterfield Sgt. Daron Myers.
