Runners in Chicago Marathon lottery to be notified Monday

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

After a website glitch postponed online registration for two weeks in March, applicants for the 2014 Bank of America Chicago Marathon will be notified of their status Monday via email.

Those who are selected to run will receive instructions on how to complete the registration process.

More than 71,000 people registered in the lottery system for the 45,000 spots for the October 12 race. This is the first year the marathon is using a lottery system.

The marathon introduced the partial lottery system in 2013 in an effort to meet the demand of participants, a statement said.

Applicants who did not use the lottery system include time qualifiers, legacy finishers, international tour groups and charity runners.

The race's charity program is still accepting a limited number of applications for the marathon for people who wish to participate by joining a charity team.
