Local Man Running Again In Boston Marathon

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

There were many local people who ran in the Boston Marathon last year, including Brad Spicer. You won't believe his story.

Brad Spicer is a school teacher in Salem, N.J. He runs to help those battling with substance abuse. Last year, his family received the ultimate blessing when he finished the marathon earlier than expected.

Spicer had finished the marathon and was on his way back to his hotel when the explosion happened. His family had been with him at the finish line. Spicer was traveling with his mother and father, 6-year-old son and his nephew.

"It was life changing… I went back to the family meeting area took a while before my family was able to get back to me. We did hugs and kisses, and we went back to the hotel, and that is when we found out what happened," he said.

Despite the tragedy he said he will run in this year's upcoming marathon with no fears.

"We're very excited to be part of the celebration and tradition once again. My wife is going to go this year. She was unable to go last year. Both of my boys will go and my dad, my dad will go," he said.

Spicer has completed many miles through running. Last year he ran 7,000 miles in the span of a year — starting just after he completed 5,000 miles the year before.

He has also helped raise over $12,000 for Project Run 7,000 and Project Purple, an initiative of the Chris Herren Project that assists families struggling with addiction

New Video Game Sparks Debate In South Jersey

Video games may be pure fantasy, but a violent action-adventure game called "Watch Dogs" has ignited a very real debate in one South Jersey community. Watch Dog allows players to adopt the persona of a James Bond-like computer hacker, chasing an evil mastermind. People say it's chock-full of foul language, sex and violence, features dark and foreboding backdrops. The latest version, which is due out this fall may be set in Camden.
