How old is too old for prom?

SOUTHGATE, Mich. (WJBK) - A student at Southgate Anderson High School is hoping school officials will change the rules after learning her 20-year-old boyfriend is not allowed at prom.

Devin Grier-Travis says she and her boyfriend, David Hardy, met in high school and have been dating for two years. Her boyfriend graduated in 2012 and turned 20 just last week - six weeks before the big dance.

The school's cut-off age for prom dates is 19.

Her family believes the choice should be left up to the parents and not the school.

The school superintendent says high school dances are for high schoolers. The rule has been enforced for two years and is clearly printed in the school's handbook, and making an exception for one student wouldn't be fair.
