Judge sentences man whose daughter died in raid

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) - A Detroit man whose daughter was accidentally killed by police during a raid has been sentenced to 40 to 60 years in prison for second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of a teenager.

Charles Jones learned his punishment Friday in Detroit. He was accused of providing a gun used in the death of 17-year-old Je'Rean Blake, who was killed outside a Detroit store in 2010.

Things got heated in court as Jones addressed prosecutors, telling them they "did a good job at manipulating and convincing the jury to convict an innocent man."

He also turned to Blake's parents, saying, "I'm terribly sorry for your loss, but Je'Rean's death had nothing or has nothing to do with me. ... From one grieving parent to another, if me being wrongfully convicted brings you any kind of relief, so be it."

Jones' daughter, 7-year-old Aiyana Stanley-Jones, was shot by a police officer days later as she slept on a couch. Police had stormed the home looking for another suspect in the Blake homicide.

Jones also was convicted of perjury in the case.

The alleged gunman, Chauncey Owens, was convicted of first-degree murder in Blake's death and earlier sentenced to life in prison without parole.
