Wayne County elections officials say former Detroit Police Chief Warren Evans has filed paperwork to run for Wayne County Executive.

Fox 2's Charlie Langton confirms the news. Play the video in the player to hear from Langton.

Evans also served as Wayne County Sheriff.  He'll go against his former boss, Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano, who officially announced that he is seeking a fourth term.

Evans ran for mayor of Detroit in 2009, and then became police chief after Mayor Dave Bing was elected.

He lost his job in 2010, in part because of an affair he had with a female officer and because he allowed TV crews to film police raids, one of which resulted in the death of 7-year-old Aiyana Jones.

Wayne County Commissioner Kevin McNamara and Westland Mayor William Wild have also filed to run for the Wayne County Executive position.
