Disabled Man Says Someone Stole His Motorized Wheelchair

Posted: Updated:

"My quality of life is nothing without my chair. I really need a chair to get wherever I need to go," said a 36-year-old North Philadelphia man. He says he came out of his home Saturday to find his motorized wheelchair gone.

"I was sitting in the house and my chair was sitting outside. I came back to the door and it was gone," he said. The man doesn't want to give his identity because he's disabled, he says, after being shot 11 years ago. The gunshot wound left him without the use of one side of his body.

"It left me with a stroke. I can only use one hand and my leg is messed up."

Police released pictures of the kind of motorized wheelchair the man says he had.

He's lived on his block for years, and doesn't know who or why someone would steal his chair.

"My chair is always out here and everybody knows it's my chair, so I was very surprised," he said.

In the meantime, he can stand and take a few steps with a cane but not for long.

He hopes someone will find his motorized wheelchair and return it.

"I need it to get around. Without it I can't get around," he said.

Philadelphia Police said the man filed with Central Detectives. If you know anything, please call Central Detectives at 215-686-3093/4.
