Eisenhower delays expected for Circle Interchange construction

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - Beginning Wednesday morning, only one lane of traffic is open from the Eisenhower Expressway into the Loop for work on Circle Interchange reconstruction.

The eastbound lanes of the expressway (I-290) were reconfigured Wednesday to allow for the construction of piers for the Halsted Street Bridge, part of the Circle Interchange Reconstruction Project, according to a statement from the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The lanes carrying traffic to Congress Parkway and the Loop were reduced to one, which will take drivers onto the outbound Kennedy. The two right lanes will continue to take drivers to the outbound Dan Ryan.

The new lane configuration is expected to last until late May or early June, according to IDOT. Drivers should expect “significant delays” and allow extra time for trips through the area.

UIC’s Urban Transportation Center has installed a live camera of the construction project, which can be viewed HERE.
