Posted: Updated:
SMYRNA - Thanks to the help of a Smyrna Communications Officer, a baby was born safely on the side of a Smyrna highway Tuesday morning.

Joshua Hendricks and his wife Virginia were excited when the expected mother started going into labor. The only problem was: they got stuck in heavy traffic on the way to the hospital.

According to a press release, Hendricks made a 911 call that was picked up by Smyrna Communications Officer Tammy Morrical. Morrical advised the couple to pull off to the side of the road and then began the Emergency Medical Dispatch protocol.

According to the press release Morrical used her training to successfully walk the Hendricks through the birthing process. Thanks to Morrical’s instructions the Hendricks were able to deliver a healthy baby girl right there in the car.

Virginia Hendricks and the newborn baby were then transported to the local hospital and are doing great.
