Firefighters Save Cats From Burning Home

Posted: Updated:
A California home gutted ,a car in the driveway is nearly ruined, and nearby trees charred.

That was the scene around 10 a.m. Monday on in Galt, CA on Quail Hollow Drive.

“When I walked over, I saw the pick up and saw the garage. It’s just devastating,” said homeowner Michael Martin.

Martin lived in the home for more than 20 years with his wife and son.

He says his first concern was for his son, who was home sleeping when the fire started.

Thankfully they made it out safely, but also in danger were his two cats.

Firefighters rescued both but one needed CPR.

“We were able to save the cat and get it off to the vet,” Richard Holmes with the Cosumnes Fire Department said.

Investigators say the fire started in the garage and quickly spread to the back of the home and upstairs.

When crews arrived, flames engulfed the home and threatened others close by.

“It is horrible. It is terrible, especially when your neighbor has lived there for that long. Their whole house is gone,” said neighbor, Allan Benett said.

The cause is still under investigation.
