Disabled Man Says Shaq Mocked His Selfie

Posted: Updated:
Madison Heights, MI- A Michigan man is getting some cruel and insulting attention online because of the way he looks.

The man says former NBA star Shaquille O'Neal started the trouble by making fun of him.

Shaq is known to be a jokester, but Jahmel Binion isn’t laughing

It all started when Binion posted a selfie on Facebook

Soon after he did, he became the butt of jokes, and because that picture was online, thousands of people were in on it.

The caption on Shaq’s Instagram post was"SMILE TODAY."

The unflattering picture earned more than 14,000 likes and more than 400 comments.

Binion said, "I was born with a rare disorder it's called ectodermal dysplasia."

He says he’s been getting teased since he was young, and people would laugh at him and point.

"People was coming to me they was telling me Shaq posted a picture with you," he said. "I was kinda hurt cause I look up to him. I watched Shaq play basketball the whole season, and so I’m like why he making fun of me when he supposed to be this role model?"

Binion also says that most of the comments were pretty negative, making fun of him.

Former University of Michigan athlete Trey Burke and rapper Waka Flocka Flame are also said to have also joined in on the teasing.

“Waka Flocka said this my number one shooter and he had his on Instagram. And it probably had 10,000 likes and 5,000 comments,” Binion said. "I got a mindview where I can't let it get to me then I’ll get hurt and depressed so I just keep my mind high and positive."

Binion also says he’s starting an anti-bullying campaign called, “Hug Don’t Judge,” where rather than bully a person you go up to them and show them a different side.

The photo on Shaq’s Instagram has since been taken down and the basketball star later apologized.O'Neal tweetedTuesday, "Made a new friend today when I called and apologized to Jahmel Binion. Great Dude."
