Police officers pulled two men out of a burning vehicle early Saturday on 43rd Avenue near I-10.

Phoenix Police say officers were trying to pull over a suspected drunk driver, but that they were not following the vehicle.  One of the officers spotted the flames and called for backup.

Two officers arrived on the scene and found the car had crashed and burst into flames.  The officers pulled two men -- believed to be in their late teens or early twenties -- out of the burning vehicle.  Both men were rushed to the hospital, and they have been in surgery and they are listed in extremely critical condition.

Police believe that speed and impairment may have been a factor in this crash.
