Only On Fox: Suspects Arrested, Charged In Anti-Violence Task Force Raid In Camden

Posted: Updated:
CAMDEN, N.J. -

Nearly two dozen people face drug related charges after Camden's anti-violence task force raided several Camden homes.

The FBI is touting this as their largest takedown in Camden in more than a decade.

Investigators said these drugs filtered into Philadelphia as well as some South Jersey suburbs.

Only Fox 29 cameras were there as federal, state and local authorities arrested 16 people associated with drug trafficking organizations.

US Attorney Paul Fishman said they nabbed the alleged leaders of the Rivera organization and the Sheridan Street organization, run by two cousins.

He says Efraim Rivera operated his drug ring from his mother’s Camden home.

“Not only were the defendants doing business together and with each other, but many of them actually are relatives, making this a family affair," Fishman said.

Investigators said the groups were selling cocaine, crack and heroin.

The FBI served nine search warrants on three blocks of the Whitman Park area, and seized three weapons, two fully loaded magazines and narcotics.

They used wire taps, surveillance and GPS during this year long investigating to zero in on the suspects.

“Today the good guys have firmly planted a flag in the ground in one of city’s most challenged neighborhoods and most violent streets," Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson said.

While the arrested aren't charged with any violent crimes, Thomson said getting them off the streets will help one of the city’s most dangerous areas.

"This organization is by far one of the largest players, and controllers and influencers of violence in that neighborhood," he said.

Fox 29 shot more exclusive video of yet another drug related arrest Wednesday afternoon.

Camden residents hope the crackdown will yield positive results for their community.

"They should clean it, clean it up some because everybody is starting to drop for different stuff," Camden resident Tammy Phillips said.

Four suspects remain at large Wednesday evening.

Each suspect could face a minimum of ten years in prison if convicted.
