Heroic Mother Saves Son From Burning Building

Posted: Updated:

Haverhill, MA-A mother in Massachusetts is recovering from surgery after jumping from a burning building with her son in her arms.

Christina Simoes was with her 18-month-old, Camron, Wednesday afternoon when a fire suddenly broke out in her apartment building.

Flames quickly spread, trapping her and her baby in the apartment.

She was forced to jump from the second story balcony, tightly clutching Camron in her arms.

She broke a bone in her back after the fall, but Camron escaped with only a bruise on his head.

"The apartment started to fill with smoke, so she had to make a decision to go," said Camron's father, Tyler Strangman. "It's amazing. Wouldn't put it passed her. I wouldn't put it passed any mom."

Christina Simoes underwent a 6 hour back surgery. Doctors say she may face paralysis.

Police still don't know what caused the fire.
