It's uncomfortable and embarrassing: one man in Venice has a chronic medical condition that won’t let him stop burping.
Ron Johnson says he woke up one morning after surgery with what he thought was some serious indigestion.
Two years later, it hasn't gone away. He's suffering from what he calls chronic belching.
He's turning to YouTube in hopes that someone in the medical field can finally help him out. Every waking hour, his speech or silence is interrupted by the issue. Johnson says he simply can't stop and the problem only worsens after he eats.
He's been to different doctors and tried different medicines and tests, but nothing seems to solve it long-term.
"I've had every gastro test that I can get. Everyone tells me I'm fine. But I'm not fine. This is not fine. The only time that it stops is when I lay down, and it doesn't completely stop," Johnson said Tuesday.
FOX 13's Dr. Joette Giovinco talked to Ron. She can't diagnose him over the phone, but she weighed in on her thoughts behind the belching.
"One of the things that comes to mind is a neurological problem. Something where a nerve may be irritated. It continues to fire an impulse. That impulse makes his way to the muscle, and then you get these uncontrolled contractions over and over and over again," she said.
Ron doesn't have health insurance, so he's having to piecemeal appointments and pricey lab tests together. He's hoping someone will see his video and be inspired to help.
