Scottsdale hit and run victim speaks out

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - A hit and run victim is speaking out tonight. A driver hit him while he was on his bicycle leaving him badly injured. That driver then took off from the scene.

The crash happened early in the morning near 120th St & Rio Verde Drive in Scottsdale.

Robert Marcellus loves to ride on trails and the roads. He was biking last Saturday when a red or maroon sedan hit him from behind. That's about all he remembers.

"Basically just going black, but the feeling of flying into the air, and then I realized I had been hit, and I had to have been hit from behind," said Marcellus.

Flying up in the a long way. "Uh from what I looked at, about fifty feet. He hit me at 55 miles per hour, so I was tossed pretty good in the air," said Marcellus.

He landed with a broken neck, back, and had multiple breaks in his hand. Doctors also say he suffered a small stroke.

A man came up to him and said he'd hit him, and told him he was a doctor. When paramedics arrived the man slipped away.

"You know I do not want to crucify him, I hold no ill will, it was a mistake, but the choice to leave and not take responsibility, there is a problem with that, especially a doctor who wouldn't check up on someone he just hit," said Marcellus.

Robert faces a long road to recovery, but he's out of the hospital and for that he's incredibly grateful.

Witnesses say the driver is in his 40's or 50's and was driving a maroon sporty car. The right side mirror was broken off and the right front of the car was damaged.

The license plate on the car ended in the letters DOC. If you have any information call Scottsdale Police at 480-312-5000.
