Mass killings: the blame game

MYFOXNY.COM -

In the days since Elliot Rodger killed six people in Santa Barbara, those close to the tragedy and strangers have been quick to try to find someone or something to blame for his horrendous behavior.

Rodger's parents have said their son was troubled and being treated by psychologists. On his YouTube channel, Rodger himself blamed his deadly rage on women rejecting him.

The father of victim Chris Martinez faulted the NRA.

Washington Post columnist Ann Hornaday sparked controversy when she faulted "escapism and sexism in Hollywood movies." She wrote: "How many men, raised on a steady diet of Judd Apatow comedies in which the shlubby arrested adolescent always gets the girl, find that those happy endings constantly elude them and conclude, 'It's not fair'?"

Apatow and actor Seth Rogen fired back on Twitter.

"How dare you imply that me getting girls in movies caused a lunatic to go on a rampage," Rogan fumed.

Why is it whenever a tragedy like this occurs we all seem to want to find a reason someone or something to blame?

"As people, we don't like to see these terrible events as random or just sort of happening," said Dr. N.G. Berrill, a forensic psychologist who studied the behavior or serial killers we want to be able to pin point the variables and identify the factors that allow us to think perhaps maybe we could predict this or we could control these kinds of things or prevent them from happening in the future.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
