Police: Resident Shoots Suspect During Home Burglary In Mantua

Posted: Updated:

An intruder got more than he bargained for after breaking into a home in the Mantua section of the city.

A resident of the home opened fire, shooting the burglar several times.

Sources said the burglar who was shot in this case is the son of notorious abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell.

22-year-old Baron Alexander was in critical condition at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania after he was shot three times.

“It sounded like a nail gun, but it was just really loud," one witness who wanted to remain anonymous said.

Shattered glass at the front door of a home on the 3700 block of Brandywine Street shows the scars of a robbery turned shooting.

Investigators said a resident of the home fired at an armed intruder during the break-in just before 7 a.m. Wednesday.

“He was moaning and crying. I believe his mother was standing not over him, but near him," witness Joe Samuel said.

Lt. John Walker said the suspect lives a few doors down, walked through his neighbors’ backyards, and entered an unopened window, then stole cash and electronics.

He was only heard after he went back a second time, eventually waking up the house.

"As they’re struggling, the person with the gun yells numerous times to stop and leave the house. The person continues to struggle with his roommate. At that point, the person fires three times striking the intruder," Walker said.

Walker said the handgun used in the shooting is registered.

Detectives remained on the scene into the afternoon collecting evidence, including a wad of money, a knife and a passport found on the front steps.

Neighbors said the three men who live in the house are in their mid 20s and in college or recent graduates.

They’re described as good guys who don’t cause problems in the neighborhood.

“I don’t think there would be any reason for them to be targeted, not at all. They’re just normal guys," friend Pat Bowden said.

Alexander faces several charges, including robbery, burglary and receiving stolen property.

The three men who live in the house will not face any charges.
