Survey finds New Yorkers working in bathrooms, kitchens

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - Time-crunched New Yorkers are resorting to working wherever they can, including the bathroom.

A new study looked at the morning routines of people around the world and found that New Yorkers are working in their bathrooms, kitchens and in their beds all before they head out to start their day.

According to the IKEA survey, it is more common for New Yorkers to work or study at home in the morning than any other city except Mumbai. 16% continue their work while they are in the bathroom while 35% even work at the dining table.

The survey also found that in New York City, 56% of residents said they don’t see themselves as morning people, even though half of the city is already operating before 7 a.m. The survey also showed 'evening people' were more creative and imaginative than those fighting to wake up. Physical connection is important to New Yorkers in the morning, but technology might be getting in the way.

83% of New York parents think it’s important to give children a hug or kiss in the morning, but only 48% actually do it.

Half of New York City parents spend their time on the computer or a smartphone on a typical morning.

New Yorkers are more likely to use their smartphones than any other city in the survey, except for Moscow. For couples, nine of ten believe it is important for physical affection in the morning to create good emotions for the day.

The survey also found that six out of ten New Yorkers eat breakfast at home and take more time to groom in the morning than the other cities.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
