Rally for Habersham Co. toddler hurt in drug raid

CLARKESVILLE, Ga. -

(AP) - Activists held a rally opposing "no-knock" warrants after a toddler was injured during a drug raid in northeast Georgia.

Nineteen-month-old Bounkham Phonesavanh was severely injured by a flash grenade that landed in his playpen at home in Cornelia during the raid on May 28. The device creates a bright flash and loud bang to distract suspects.

The so-called "no-knock" warrants allow police to enter a location unannounced. They are intended to prevent evidence tampering and injuries to officers.

Authorities have said police didn't know children were inside the home when they entered in search of a drug suspect.
