Neighbors want mess, damage from watermain project cleaned up

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) - A major watermain replacement project is underway along Mack and Jefferson avenues on Detroit's east side. Sounds like great news for the city's ailing infrastructure, right?

Not if you live in a nearby neighborhood, which is now a staging area for the construction project.

The huge trucks have torn up the streets and that's not all.

"A huge rock and it tore up my muffler and now I [have] a hole in my muffler. And I asked the man can I talk to the people that's in charge? ... He told me he was going to tell the man and he never came," says Shanequa Allen.

"I'm wondering what condition is this going to be in when they're done," says Carl Stahl.

The people who live on Radnor near Frankfort say huge, heavy trucks are rolling through the neighborhood dumping loads of sand and dirt and other materials in the vacant lots.

They're not happy.

Several of the contractors out there with Imperial Construction have assured FOX 2 everything will be replaced and put back where it was found once the project is complete.

Neighbors sure hope so. No word on when this will be done but some say it will be worth it in the end.

"They not doing to leave it like that," believes neighbor Denise Miller.

"There's trucks and tractors every day working on this stuff. So, it looks like they're being productive and fixing up some part of the city," says neighbor Melissa Bingham.
