Caught On Tape: Roxborough Store Clerk Robbed And Attacked

PHILADELPHIA -

Police say they're looking to identify and locate the man who knocked out a clerk while robbing a Roxborough deli this week.

Workers at M&M Deli in Roxborough have watched it over and over and still can't believe what happened.

"We're disgusted and beyond angry," said employee Krista Tangradi.

It was Tuesday just before 2 p.m. when a man walked into the store and right behind the counter. He was holding what, police say, appeared to be a Macy's bag in one hand and a gun in the other.

The video shows the suspect order the store owner to give him money from the register then force him to hand over packs of cigarettes from the shelf.

Tangradi describes where it took a turn for the worse when the store owner made a quick move.

"He hit the panic button and the suspect saw that. He looked under the counter and saw the button and that's when he hit him." she said.

The video shows the suspect hit him at least six times in the head. The victim fell to the floor and his robber turned attacker took off.

Tangradi who lives above the store got the desperate call for help. She said, "The whole entire left side of his face was very red, his eye was bloodshot and his face was swollen. He was just out of it." The victim has owned the store and worked in it nearly 20 years.

Employees said he was robbed at gunpoint and attacked about 10 years ago, but that guy was caught.

They hope this one will be too. The victim suffered a broken eye socket. The suspect got away with $1500 in cash.

The robber is described as being black, in his early- to mid-30s, at least 6 feet tall, with a muscular build and light facial hair, police said. He was wearing a blue and white button-up, hooded sweatshirt, a tan baseball cap with a dark-colored brim, white and black sneakers as well as checkered black and white boxer shorts.

If you see this suspect, don't approach him; call 9-1-1 immediately. To submit a tip, call 215-686-TIPS (8477), text one to PPD TIP (773847), or use this electronic form.
