Luxury home will soon fall into North Texas lake

Posted: Updated:
A luxury lakeside home in North Texas is about to fall into the water. The house is dangling over the edge of a cliff on Lake Whitney, which is south of Fort Worth, Texas. Video from our FOX sister station in Dallas shows a large crack in the cliff that it was built on. A section has already given way.

According to Zillow.com, the 4,000 square foot residence that was built in 2007 was worth about $800,000. No one is currently living in the house and there are signs up around the property warning people to stay away. A neighbor said the family noticed problems back in February when the ground started to shift. There are statewide standards for home construction, but as far as location -- the restrictions vary from county to county.

A Hill County judge told FOX 4 there's no county restriction that would affect that home from being built so close to the edge and it's up to any covenants approved within that subdivision to restrict its location.
