Shooting Hoops With Special Olympics Athlete Brian Pitts

East Orange, New Jersey (My9NJ) - The Special Olympics will be held here in New Jersey June 14th through June 21st. The Games have many different events, including Special Olympics athlete Brian Pitts’ favorite, basketball.

“My high score was 44 points in high school, and I had a banner that has my name and the points I have scored for my high school career,” Pitts shared.

Pitts, 26, of East Orange, definitely has skills on the court. Teammates have often referred to his game as being similar to NBA all-star, Lebron James.

“They call me Lebron, or Michael Jordan because I have a real shot and I go to the basket more,” Pitts stated.

Pitts has been playing basketball for years. He has a lot of experience in practice and training both on and off the court.

“You just have to be aggressive on offense and defense. Don’t give up,” Pitts encouraged.

Pitts often helps young kids work on their game when they see him excelling out on the court.

“They want to be like somebody, they can do it, you can do it. I had a dream once that I wanted to be on the national team, and I made the team a year ago last summer. I really thought I wasn’t going to make it, but the dream became a reality,” Pitts said.

The Games start this Saturday. Good Luck, Brian!

Sadly, Jeter the pit bull puppy is missing. While dogs go missing all the time, there are two specific things that distinguish this story from others. First, several witnesses say Jeter didn't wonder off and that they saw Jeter get taken. Second, the community has rallied in a huge way to help find the loveable pup.

Empty spaces are popping up all over Atlantic City with the closing of three major casinos: Revel, Trump Plaza, and Showboat. Even with all of this going on, the city is still trying to use eminent domain to take away the home of an Atlantic City local legend, Piano Man Charlie Birnbaum. Birnbaum has tuned pianos for icons like: Frank Sinatra, Liza Minnelli, and John Legend. He's been a resident of Atlantic City in the same home for over 50 years.
