Priests attacked, more about Father's Walker & Terra

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Both of the priests who were attacked are well known and liked in their parish community.

Father Walker died at the scene, but Father Terra remained hospitalized and underwent surgery this afternoon.

Associate Pastor Father Kenneth Walker was 28 years-old. He was the middle of eleven children, six boys, and five girls and was born in Poughkeepsie, New York.

Father Joseph Terra was injured in the attack; he is from California.

A priest who knew both men well asked whoever is responsible for the attack to come forward.

"For those who seek God's forgiveness, the Lord is merciful, but I would ask them to turn to him for forgiveness and turn themselves in," said Father David Sanfilippo.

Father Walker's path to the priesthood started in Tennessee where his family owned some land and where they visited to build a log cabin.

The family happened upon a book about the Catholic Mass in a bookstore there, and they were intrigued.

Father Walker began learning latin, and his family moved to rural Pennsylvania near Scranton. He attended church schools and entered the seminary. In 2012 e was ordained as a priest, but Wednesday night his service was cut short.

"Well, the truth is what it reminded me of is this happened to the lord himself, and he asked us to follow him daily, and Father Terra & Walker have done that," said Sanfilippo.

The Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter is dedicated to traditional catholic teachings. Both priests were members of the Knights of Columbus and prayed in front of valley abortion clinics.
