PHOENIX (KSAZ) - People who attend mass at the mission known both priests well. All day long parishioners have been bringing flowers and candles to the church as a show of support.

There is a growing memorial at the door at the Mother of Mercy Mission. Parishioners are also going to St. Catherine's a few miles from here for a 40 hour prayer. The community praying for both priests and for whoever did this to come forward.

Catholic parishioners stopping by the growing memorial. Saying prayers, setting down candles, flowers, and rosary's at the Mother of Mercy Mission where one priest was shot and killed, another critically injured.

"I can't understand why someone would do something like that, these are good loving and caring people, how can anyone hurt them," said Cecilia Sanchez.

The community was stunned to hear 28 year-old Father Kenneth Walker was shot and killed in the living area next to the place of worship. 56 year-old Father Joseph Terra was physically beaten there and remains in critical but stable condition.

"It's a grave sin for them to attack our priests when they are doing the work of the lord," said Hortencia Rengal.

"There are no words; this is horrible, they are wonderful priests, I come here 6 days a week, I don't know what to say," said Sanchez.

"The community is shocked of all faiths Christian, it's really hard to say anything, just because the magnitude of the incident, just really, really, sad," said Tony Chavez.

"I don't see how all this evil is surrounding us, it's devastating," said Rengal.

"It makes it harder to deal with because these are men of god, and they serve the community, and they give life to faith. For someone to take their life is just tragic," said Chavez.
