Meet Up to Eat Up Summer Food Program

Posted: Updated:
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -- With Summer starting many students who receive school lunch programs are not sure what they are going to do for food this summer. United way's program, "Meet Up to Eat UP," allows kids to get meals and hang out with their friends for free over the summer vacation.

The program is open to kids 18 or younger and students over the age of 18 who also participate in school programs for people with mental or physical disabilities. There are no income requirements and no application.

To find locations around you, call 2-1-1 or text "FOODMI" to 877877. The sites, such as schools, parks, libraries, recreation centers, and churches, will start serving once schools are out on vacation.

Parents and teachers know school supplies don't come cheap. Many teachers even buy school supplies out-of-pocket. But now, a new Detroit company is doing more than selling school supplies - they're also giving back.
